CBM Calculator (Cubic Meter)

📦 What Is CBM (Cubic Meter)?

CBM stands for Cubic Meter. It is the standard unit used to measure the volume of cargo, cartons, pallets, and shipments in warehouses, transport planning, and freight forwarding.

In simple terms, CBM tells you how much space a box or shipment occupies, not how heavy it is.

Warehouse teams use CBM to:

  • Plan storage space
  • Estimate truck and container capacity
  • Calculate freight charges
  • Improve warehouse utilization

📐 CBM Calculation Formula

The basic CBM formula is:

CBM = Length × Width × Height

⚠️ All dimensions must be in meters.

If you have multiple cartons:

Total CBM = CBM per carton × Quantity

🔄 Unit Conversion Used in This Tool

Since carton dimensions are often measured in different units, this calculator automatically converts them into meters before calculating CBM.

  • Millimeter (mm) → divide by 1000
  • Centimeter (cm) → divide by 100
  • Meter (m) → no conversion required

This ensures the CBM result is always accurate and standardized.

🧮 Example CBM Calculation

Let’s say you have:

  • Length: 60 cm
  • Width: 40 cm
  • Height: 30 cm
  • Quantity: 10 cartons

Step 1: Convert cm to meters

  • 0.6 m × 0.4 m × 0.3 m

Step 2: Calculate CBM per carton

  • 0.072 m³

Step 3: Calculate total CBM

  • 0.072 × 10 = 0.72 m³
